Kindness Club"Where we ALL belong, feel seen and valued."
Creating a community connected by inclusion, respect and global citizenship. Kindness Club uses an anti bias curriculum to focus of highlighting the need for diversity, inclusion and equity in an Elementary school setting. This is acheived by fun art and activity based learning hosted by volunteers.
What We Do
Initially, we held lunch time activities once a week where volunteers led activities such as positive affirmations, social emotional activities and art based explorations of ideas. This was born from a need to help our kiddos with a place to be at lunch time if they were feeling left out. It morphed into a space where kids could explore new concepts like what makes us different but also the same. We expanded on concepts like “What does it mean to be a Global Citizen?” We celebrated days like International day of Peace and held a March for Climate Action.
We believe that this is where it begins. When children learn diversity, tolerance and acceptance of others. We can’t wait for you to come and be a part of our Kindness Club.
This year, during the pandemic, we will be going virtual and have our own secure Google Classroom. So please reach out to us for our classroom code and we’ll see you in ‘class’.
Last year we were fortunate enough to be granted a $5,000 grant from Teaching Tolerance based on our Kindness Club Curriculum.
This $5,000 grant was matched by TEEF and over the summer we purchased a diversity library and 2 new shade structures to build our Kindness Corner at school.
GUSD Anti Bias Committment
Edison is highly involved in the Superintendent’s inclusion committee which is dedicated to getting anti bias curriculum in all of GUSD’s schools. We are very excited to be considered at the forefront of this movement within GUSD.
